Technology

The seven campuses of Honors Academy utilize a vast repertoire of
technology to educate students, which include:

Smartboards: Combining the simplicity of a whiteboard with the power of a computer, the SMART Board interactive whiteboard lets you deliver dynamic lessons, write notes in digital ink, and save your work - all with the simple touch of a finger!

In-Focus Projectors: There is nothing like seeing the world laid out before you. From the rigid Appalachian mountain range, flowing waterfalls and colorful festivals in distant lands, geography is diverse, beautiful and ever changing. As a geography teacher, I have found that the most effective way to present the world to my students isn't with a chalk board or 8x11 photos but with a projector that allows me to present large, bright, crisp images in feet, not inches that are truly representative of the world surrounding us.

ELMOs: Turn any presentation into an exciting event. State-of-the-art features bring images into vivid detail. Whether you need to capture live images at 20 frames per second or zoom in on still images with fine detail, ELMO has a presenter that will leave a lasting impression.

Microsoft Office 2007: With the introduction of the new "ribbon" style layout, students will be able to learn and manipulate the newest version of all Microsoft Office applications. This will be very beneficial to them in the workforce, for more and more companies utilize this software.

Rosetta Stone (Spanish): A carefully designed sequence of activities. By surrounding you with words, images and the voices of native speakers, Rosetta Stone lets you progress naturally from words and phrases to sentences and conversations. Definately cutting edge interactive technology!

Wireless Internet Access: Wireless capability is the most effective and efficient way to access the internet, and we are utilizing it to the fullest! Not only do students and teachers throughout the district use this form of networking, students in many of the high schools are learning how it works and how to diagnose problems.

Laptops: As computers have become smaller and more portable, this provides an ideal educational tool, not only for the minimum space required but also for the most advanced applications that come standard with each unit. Honors Academy has adopted the concept of laptop useability and is currently at a facinating 95% convergence from the use of desktops.
